9 Day Itinerary
*May be adjusted based on water levels or group needs.
ARRIVE DAY 0
See you in the evening around 12:35am - we will pick you up at the airport and go to a local hotel in Quito for a restful sleep. DAY 1 Take your time to settle in after a long day of travel. Perhaps sleep in and enjoy brunch before exploring the Mercado Artesanal La Mariscal, and the city’s crown jewel - it's ’Old Town,’ a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with colonial monuments and architectural treasures. As the second highest capital in the world, Quito sits high in the Andean foothills at 2850 m above sea level which is 1850 m higher than Calgary, AB. Get ready for your adventures ahead! |
DAY 2
After a delicious breakfast we will load up the van and drive through high elevations and beautiful countryside on the way to soak at the Papayacta’s Hot Springs. Tucked up on the mountain side, there are a variety of pools to suit everyone's temperature needs. We will enjoy lunch before continuing on to Baeza - a kayakers paradise where we will settle in along the river banks at the Quijos River Lodge. Expect an amazing and authentic welcome dinner upon arrival, and get grounded by enjoying the beautiful gardens, river edge, yoga stage or even get us to spark up the sauna! Option to get your river legs right out front of the lodge! |
DAY 3
Get your stretches in early! After breakfast at the Quijos River Lodge we will start our drive into the Jungle. Dropping down in elevation and going up in temperature, we will make our way to the paddlers paradise of Tena where we will check in at Monkey Island, our own little jungle oasis for the next 4 days. Unload the van, get settled in your rooms and gear up - less layers, more sunscreen! We will start with a warm up day on the Anzu River Class I-II. We will pick up lunch from our friends at Oso Peresoso on our way to the river. After our paddle we will come back to the lodge to watch monkeys, swim in the pool, and enjoy dinner off the menu at Monkey Island! |
DAY 4
Make sure you fuel up for a big day of paddling with another amazing breakfast at Monkey Island - your choice off the menu! Today’s adventure will take us to the Jatunyacu River Class III pool drop, a full day on Reta’s favourite river! Jatunyacu means BIG WAVES and this river will not disappoint! (There will be a raft option if needed). In the evening we will come back to unwind and share river highlights as we chillax and enjoy Monkey Island and dinner off their menu. |
DAY 5
Wake up to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy your choice off the menu for breakfast at Monkey Island to fuel yourself for a day of adventure. Today we will explore the Misahualli River: Class I-II and take in the amazing mountain and jungle views along the way. We will say hi to our friend Gabriel and enjoy his lunch menu at Oso Peresoso, before paddling on downstream. After a day of adventuring we will head back to Monkey Island to unwind and get ready for a night on the town. Dinner at Chuquitos followed by a walk in the town wandering along the magical lit up streets. During our evening debrief we will finalize our choices for Thursday’s Adventure Choices. |
DAY 6
Choose your own adventure! Send It or Explore. As we sit down at breakfast we will review the plan for people's choice of adventure and set off. If there are keen paddlers that are craving the Jatunyacu one more time… If you are looking to rest your body you may take a Chocolate Tour where you will have the opportunity to make some of your own. or other options avaibl |
DAY 7
The excitement is real at the Monkey Island Breakfast table - your choice off the menu as we talk about the last minute logistics for an experience of a lifetime! We will drive deep into the Lower Jondachi before being greeted by the locals that will help us get all our gear down the class 4 put in to the river. We will slowly wander our way through the jungle to where we will prepare to work as a team on a full day rafting adventure. The Jondachi River is technical and on your toes Class III+ rafting with more than 18 waterfalls to view pouring down the canyon walls! Finish with an optional night on the town after our final dinner at Monkey Island. |
DAY 8
Time to cool off and hit the mountains! After another amazing breakfast we will make our way to Banos where Andres' family will host us at Mercedes Hotel and Restaurant. Along the way we will stretch our legs and explore the El Pailon del Diablo waterfall, eat lunch at one of the many fine local joints, cable cross a canyon and finish the travel adventure day with steam boxes and a clay mask facial before melting into your new room. Dinner will be made with love by Andres’ mom at the Mercedes Hotel and Restaurant. If you're feeling refreshed I’m sure the guides would love to take you out for a dance in the town a few blocks away. |
DAY 9
Dry out your gear and explore Banos - located in a stunning valley at the base of an active volcano. Take in the local hot springs, go to the spa, explore the markets and lunch in the town. We will load up the van before our farewell dinner at Mercedes Hotel and Restaurant, then hit the road toward the Airport. It’s less than a four hour drive including stops, for evening or early morning flights. Reta will come along to say goodbye. |
