Paddle Canada River 1 Instructor Certification

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The River 1 SUP Instructor Course is aimed at teaching basic river skills and safety knowledge for paddling on Class I rivers. If you have completed the Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater Instructor program, have river sup skills training with strong river experience and a passion for teaching then this course is for you!

GOALS
To certify participants in the Paddle Canada River 1 SUP
Instructor Program. Candidates will cover the material in the Paddle Canada SUP Manual for River 1 Instructors and will receive personal development feedback in regards to their paddling.

OUTCOMES
Successful instructor candidates will demonstrate skills and experience beyond the level they are teaching at (Class I) and will be certified to teach Introductory River SUP on fast moving water with ripples, small waves and few or no obstructions. Successful participants will be able to lead Paddle Canada River 1 Skills courses and clinics.

PRE-REQUISITES
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current Paddle Canada membership
  • Paddle Canada River 2 SUP skills certification, or equivalent skills and knowledge
  • Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater SUP Instructor certification
  • Current certification in standard first aid with CPR (14–16 hours)
  • Experience beyond that of the River 1 SUP skills course
  • Recommended: appropriate swift-water rescue training
