This course is offered for all Paddle Canada River 1 instructors and River 1/2 instructor candidates to ensure that they have skills above their students.
If you do not currently hold a River 2 Skills Certification that you received in Lusk Creek Eddies on the Kan or the Upper section of Harvie Passage it is strongly recommended that you ensure you can perform all the River 2 skills with confidence in these areas before your River 2 Instructor Course.
If you are not in the instructor stream, check out our SKILL BUILDING programs to see what may better fit your needs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a 2 day progression. Practise all your SUP skills in Class II river environments and develop greater balance, power and control. You will learn more advanced paddle maneuvers to grow your tool box for river running. GOALS The aim of this course is to take paddlers already possessing good class I SUP skills and introduce them to stronger and more demanding currents. In this course you will learn how to adjust your “PAW” to stronger currents, read more complex hydrology, and develop more advanced paddling skills and maneuvers such as the offside stroke and S-Turns. Most importantly, this program aims to build your understanding of how to stay safe and contribute to group safety in a whitewater river environment. OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive a Paddle Canada River 2 Skills Certification. Participants can expect to feel comfortable navigating Class II rivers with a group of peers. They will also develop an understanding of the potential hazards the river poses along with a variety of new skills that can be applied to the moving water environment. Skills include jet ferries, S-turns and running more technical features. |
