COURSE DESCRIPTION
This River 2 SUP Instructor Course is aimed at leading and teaching more advanced river skills and safety knowledge for paddling on Class 2 rivers. If you have completed the Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater and River 1 Instructor programs, have confident river SUP skills training with strong river experience and a passion for teaching then this course is for you!

GOALS
To certify  participants in the Paddle Canada River 2 SUP
Instructor Program candidates will cover the material in thePaddle Canada SUP Manual for River 2 and will receive personal development feedback in regards to their paddling.

OUTCOMES
Successful instructor candidates will clearly demonstrate skills and experience beyond the level they are teaching at (Class II) and will be  certified to teach Intermediate River SUP on fast moving water with waves, and a  few obstructions. Successful participants  will be able to lead Paddle Canada River 2 Sills Courses and Clinics.

Dates: No course currently available for the 2024 season.

PRE-REQUISITES
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current Paddle Canada membership
  • Paddle Canada River 2 SUP Skills certification received within the last 2 seasons. (see note at top of page)
  • Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater SUP & RIVER 1 Instructor certification
  • Current certification in standard first aid with CPR (14–16 hours)
  • Experience beyond that of the River 1 SUP Instructors Course
  • Recommended: appropriate swift-water rescue training

INCLUDES
Program Instruction with Neil and Reta assistant/mentee

DURATION
4 Full Days plus 1 Evening debrief (on day 2 or 3)

May 5th Evening Video session 6pm-8pm w/ Neil and Reta
May 6-8th  9am -5pm plus 6pm-8pm on May 6th w/ Neil and Reta

ENVIRONMENT
River
If you do not currently hold a River 2 Skills Certification that you received in Lusk Creek Eddies on the Kan or the Upper section of Harvie Passage it is strongly recommended that you ensure you can perform all the River 2 skills with confidence in these areas before your River 2 Instructor Course.

We are offering a River 2 Skills Course before this course to set you up for success.  It is encouraged that you take it. This is required if you don't already have this certification.
